Professor, I need a job.

Hmm.. I have an opening for Undergraduate Research Assistant. Will you be interested?

YES! I will take it.

Okay. Fill up the application form here.

He filled up the formed, signed it, and went back, expecting the call from the professor.

Before he could sit down when he reached home, he picked up his car key again and rushed to the Chinese restaurant.

Sir? Are you hiring?

The Chinese restaurant owner looked at him.

Yes, we are looking for a delivery boy.

Okay, I will take the job.

Good. When can you start?

Today.

The Chinese restaurant owner gave him the roaster on his work schedule, and he started work immediately to deliver all the Kungpow chicken and other American-Chinese food.

After working for few hours, he spotted a sign in front of a bar. It said, “Hiring.”

He walked into the bar, and asked for the bar owner.

Excuse me sir, I saw the sign outside saying that you are hiring.

The bar owner looked at him.

In fact, I am! Do you have work permit?

Er… To be honest, I don’t.

Well, if you do not have work permit, we can only give you another rate.

The bar owner gave him the rate. It was much lower than those regular workers, but he needed the money.

I will take it. When can I start work?

Can you start tonight?

He looked at the roaster. He got 20 minutes between the delivery job and the bar.

Yes, I can start tonight.

Good, I will see you then.

Right after the delivery job, he rushed to the bar as quickly as possible, and he was given an apron and some table clothes. He was the latest bus boy and the dish washer at the bar.

He worked as hard as possible. Whenever there were empty glasses on the bar top or table, he would rush to pick them up. Then when the load was heavy, he would just squat at the back alley and started cleaning the glasses and plates vigorously.

After closing and cleaning up, he reached home at 4 in the morning. He was exhausted, and he sat on the couch, rubbing his shoulders.

Then he saw the blinking light on his answering machine.

Hi! This is Professor XXX. We are accepting your application for the Undergraduate Research Assistant position. Can you come by my office to get all the details tomorrow at 730 in the morning? See you then. Bye!

He sighed.

He dragged his feet and collapsed onto his bed.

That day, October 25th, marked the day he became an adult and started working 3 jobs in the society.
