Mom, why did Father always ask us to take lesson?
He asked Mom during one of the days when the whole family sat down. It has been few years since his Father passed away.
What do you mean, son?
Well, he forced me to take swimming lesson, for an example.
When your Father was a kid, he fell into a pond and almost drowned himself. Someone saved him, so he wanted you to learn how to swim so you won’t have this kind of experience.
He kept quiet for a moment.
But how about other stuff like computer lessons, piano lessons, all that?
Mom looked at him and his sisters.
Your Father came from a big and poor family. Since young he got to work while studying to sustain the family. Your grandfather didn’t allow them to take any lessons. In fact, he didn’t allow your Father to learn any of these because he wanted your Father to work more to earn more. So your Father promised himself that one day when he became a father, he wouldn’t want to repeat what his father did to him. That’s why even when your Father was broke, he would rather starve himself and saved the money to pay for all these lessons.
He looked at his sisters. His sisters looked at each other and looked at him. No one said a word.
His sisters eyes turned red and tears sprung out from the corners of their eyes.
He could feel the moisture building in his eyes, and his heart swelled.
