Lately, the crazy person who went berserk (see post office rampage) has been behaving himself. After much observation, I can conclude that he has gone berserk for two reasons. Now it is my turn to go berserk with my brain power…
First of all, he is 40 years old, and he’s lonely. He has been single for many years, and he’s still staying with his mom. So basically social life is next to non-existance, and he don’t go vacation (saves all the money for some reasons).
The second reason is that he likes the admin lady *gasp!* but the admin lady doesn’t like him. So most of the time he’s trying to gain attention from everyone, including me, and especially the admin lady, because he feels so lonely and no one really dare to talk to him. He’s acting crazy because he wants attention, but we don’t give him attention because he’s acting crazy. So this is the very basic formula for chicken-and-egg question.
Anyway, after I have done my analysis, I told the admin lady not to behave as if he is a disease. I told her to treat him with professional manners, and be courteous. Furthermore, when he’s acting a bit crazy, just ignore the action and do not make nasty comments to further agitate him. She has been doing what I had told her, and things are getting much better nowadays. So far this guy has been acting pretty normal and friendly, not like last time, friendly but crazy. It’s still too early to make a judgement, but let’s hope that he will be OK soon.
Unfortunately, sometimes things do happen for a reason. No one is at fault all by himself (or herself). Basically, if the admin lady has been doing things different, or rather, look at things differently, things will be much better. The problem is that she’s taking all the things that he does too personally, so when that guy gone crazy, or when he’s normal and be friendly, she’s thinking otherwise, and sometimes she’ll blurt out some not-so-friendly comment. Of course, trying to get her attention, the crazy guy will go crazier just to get more attention. So we cannot blame him for the things that he has done, but we also cannot blame the admin lady about the craziness she caused on this crazy guy.
There’s no need to be hostile or whatever. We should not create a formula for disaster. Make love, not war!
