::: se7en. revisited :::

Last night when I was so damn bored, I took out one of the DVD I bought when I was in US. I browsed through the titles and finally, I selected Se7en, one of my all time favourite movies.

I believe a lot of you watched this movie before. If you haven’t, well, you must have lived in a cave for the past 10 years or something. Anyway, let’s not be too judgemental, should we? Okay, the movie is about a criminal, Johnathan Doe (or John Doe, played by Kevin Spacey), is a smart and patient criminal, or a messenger from god, whom slauthered/tortured the people with the 7 sins: sloth, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and pride. Now, the method he used to “judge” those “sinners” are really interesting but brutal, nonetheless. So guess what? Our heroes, Detective Mills (Brad Pitt) and Sommerset (Morgan Freeman) worked day and night trying to bring him to justice. Here comes the spoiler: at the end, John Doe gave himself in to the justice system, and wanted Mills and Sommerset to take him to find the last two hidden bodies. It turned out that the so-called hidden bodies did not exist, but he was masterminding the grand ending of the story that people will remember forever. He envied Mills for having a family, and he killed Mrs. Mills (Gwyneth Paltrow), and that inflicted a lot of pain in Mills. So at the end, Mills committed “wrath” by killing John Doe.

A lot of us always giving out comment about how fat that dude is, how ugly that girl is, and blah blah blah. The only question is, who are we to judge other people? Oh come on, I have seen a 300 lbs lady commenting on the flaws of a girl who just walked by. A lot of people who call others “ugly” and they do look like monkeys themselves, just that they keep thinking highly of themselves and ignore that they are monkey-ass ugly.

If we keep judging people around us, then we are not so much different than John Doe, besides the fact that John Doe took action to “clean up” the 7 sins. Are we so perfect that we think everyone around us is of lesser quality? We can call that girl a “fat bitch” or the guy “short dick” but are we really that tall to begin with? Or are we that thin? Unfortunately, those people who do that also find Yao Ming (one of the most famous China export who plays in NBA. He’s 7 feet 6 inches tall) a bamboo stick. So the question is, anyone shorter than us is a short dick, and another one taller than us will be a bamboo stick or lamp post. So the final question is; are we that perfect?

Unfortunately, no one is perfect, and the only thing we can do is to learn how to improve ourselves and correct our flaws that came with the package.
